During collections of decomposing submerged and terrestrial substrates in the Brazilian Amazon, a new species of Bactrodesmium Cooke was collected. The genus is characterized by forming sporodochia with monoblastic conidiogenous cells that produce cylindrical to clavate, multiseptate, slightly verrucous, conidia with rounded apex and rhexolytic secession. The new species B. amazonicum differs from the previously known species in the genus by the setose sporodochium. This difference was responsible for the diagnosis emendation of the genus proposed here. This result contributes to the expanding knowledge of the kingdom Fungi and providing valuable material for future studies about these new taxa. |
