•IMC–PI-Lead control technique is designed and proposed for the DCM-tied PFODBC.•Analysis to evaluate efficacy & effectiveness of IMC-PI-Lead controller in event of unexpected fluctuations.•Comparative study based on frequency and time domain specifications to demonstrate effectiveness and robustness of the proposed controller with PI, IMC-PID & IMC-PIDD2.•The proposed technique is verified using a low-cost microcontroller DSP F280379D based laboratory prototype. |
