Abstrakt: In this study, Shen et al. show that a single cysteine residue (Cys48) in transcription factor Oct4 controls its stability and sensitivity to oxidation. Cys48 modulates apoptosis and pluripotency programs in embryonic stem cells and thus plays an influential role in cell differentiation and embryonic development.
