Abstrakt: •Enterococcus faecalisisolates harbouring optrAwere the predominant linezolid-resistant enterococci (LRE) in Belgium, with ST480 as the most prominent multilocus sequence type.•Linezolid resistance in E. faeciumcould be attributed to either chromosomal mutations or transferable resistance determinants.•Core genome single-nucleotide polymorphism analysis did not reveal close genetic relatedness. Spread of the LRE strain from one patient to another was not detected.•LRE strains are emerging worldwide and also in Belgium as shown by an increase in absolute number of LRE strains between 2013 and 2021. To date, LRE strains were submitted voluntarily to the Belgian National Reference Centre (NRC). We suggest enhancing LRE monitoring by making the submission of LRE strains to the NRC mandatory.
