Abstrakt: Sir Geoffrey Allen was first and foremost a very fine scientist, highly respected, especially for his expertise in polymer science and technology. Over time he built up an extensive network of scientific know-how globally, establishing on-going relationships with many key scientists that enabled him to provide vision and leadership for the scientific community in academia and the world of business. Allen's ability to give a succinct and clear summary of an issue, his view and the reasoning behind his view were remarkable. He was very supportive of younger scientists, particularly when he perceived talent, and encouraged them. He devoted much of his free time to promoting science and technology in various forums but especially that of young people, and was particularly good at motivating people, being extremely effective at all levels. He was great confidence builder in any situation.
