The Eastern Pyrenees in the 5thCentury ad: towards a post-urban territorial model The Roman occupation of the Oriental Pyrenees was organized along the High Empire around some urban centres, as Iulia Lybica or Lugdunum Convenarum, connecting these mountain regions to the main economic circuits of the western Mediterranean. However, from the 3rd c. AD onwards, this urban System vanished in many regions, as the Cerdanya area, despite the continuity of many of the Pyrenean productions. During the 4th c. and specially 5th c. AD another territorial model was developed in the Oriental Pyrenees, where the presence of the Late Roman Army was a key point, as well as the exploitation of important mountain resources, like metals, wood and livestock. |
