Abstrakt:	•For 70 years in the near past, pertussis has been close to eradication.•During 2023, a thousand cases appeared epidemically in Serbia.•During the first two months of 2024, the situation has worsened with 400 new cases.•Thermodynamic properties explain the relatively long period of inclubation.•Catabolism must support anabolism to provide competitive advantage against the host.
