Abstract: A new subgenus Clypeostethasubgen. n.is established for the jewel beetle Sphenoptera epistomalisObenberger, 1927 from Northwestern and Western Kazakhstan and northwestern Uzbekistan (the first record for the country). Principal diagnostic characters of the new subgenus, an illustrated redescription of S. epistomalis, and data on its distribution and host plant are presented. The main diagnostic character of Clypeostethais the absence of the clypeal suture that separates the clypeus from the frons in all the other known Sphenopterini. |
