Abstrakt: •Transition metal oxide and rare-earth metal oxide supported carbon-based nanomaterial (TRM) synthesized by hydrothermal method.•Photocatalytic activity of prepared catalyst examined against frequently used azo-dye (Congo Red).•The photocatalytic degradation process of azo dye is highly efficient with a removal percentage of 99.8 % for sunlight irradiation.
