Abstrakt: This paper describes the performance characteristics of a spiral phase plate (SPP) made of polylactic acid (PLA) plastic with horn feed for orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode l=  + 1 generation in three microwave frequency bands: S, C, and X. When plane waves pass through the SPP, the thickness variation results in an azimuthal variation of the permittivity, which introduces an azimuthal phase delay and generating an OAM beam. An SPP structure can be easily implemented with PLA material using 3D printing technology, which reduces fabrication challenges and costs. The simulated results show that an OAM vortex beam with l=  + 1 is successfully generated at various microwave frequencies with a gain of 16–18.5 dBi, high mode purity, and a low divergence angle. The measurement results for PLA at X-band were also presented, showing the generation of the OAM beam and an estimation of the mode purity.
