Abstrakt: The oilshale of Messel (Hessen, West-Germany) produced several skeletons of the paroxyclaenid genus Kopidodon. They allow to some extent an interpretation of the way of life in this genus. Even if the number of special adaptations is limited it is most probable that Kopidodon was arboreal using its claws for climbing. The unusual attrition of the molars indicates a very specialized vegetarian diet.
