Abstrakt: The corrosion behaviour of cold rolled mild steel in stagnant aerated solutions of nitrate, chloride, sulphate, sulphide, nitrite, benzoate and chromate ions has been studied. Compromise potential, weight-loss and galvanostatic anodic polarisation measurements have been carried out. These three methods agree in indicating that the potential of the steel, its corrosion rate, and the critical current density for passivation vary with the nature and concentration of the aggressive anion. The reaction in these media is assumed to be mainly under anodic control.
