The importance of estate planning cannot be emphasized enough, so much more so where the relevant individuals have a connection to more than one jurisdiction. Said connection may be with respect to citizenship, residency, ownership of assets or the jurisdiction of residence of the heirs. This article considers each of these factors separately. As the world is global, more individuals are affected by the laws of foreign jurisdictions upon their demise and if no planning has been effected during their lifetime, the heirs are left to clean up the mess. |
