Abstrakt: Large doses of X rays have been shown to impair the insulating properties of polytetrafluoroethylene. Experimental evidence suggests that the marked “natural leakage” and soakage effects exhibited by P.T.F.E., for at least nine months after heavy irradiation, are different aspects of the same phenomenon. The influence on ionization measurements made with chambers incorporating insulators of P.T.F.E. is discussed.
