Abstrakt: An 81-year-old Polish gentleman underwent emergency repair of a leaking abdominal aortic aneurysm with a straight-woven Dacron graft. A large left-sided retroperitoneal hacmatoma was noted at that time. Eight days post-operatively, he developed a pyrexia and left-sided abdominal tenderness. Ultrasound demonstrated a fluid collection in the retroperitoneum anterior to the psoas muscle and inferior to the lower pole of the left kidney. A needle aspirate of this revealed blood-stained fluid and Bacteroides were cultured from both this specimen and venous blood.
