The history of salpingography is briefly surveyed up to the present day.The alleged dangers of Lipiodol salpingography are considered and the majority of them are dismissed as being of little practical importance.The dangers of spreading tubal infection, and producing permanent tubal block from inspissation are regarded as significant. The use of water soluble media obviates the latter complication, and in this respect and some others the claims made in respect of such media are considered to have been substantiated.The advantages of salpingography from a diagnostic point of view are discussed, and the different appearances due to the use of water soluble media are described.The effects of retroversion in producing cervical block are demonstrated, and the value of the lateral view as well as serial radiography and screen control is discussed. |
