Abstrakt: The erbium:YAG laser represents an advance in laser resurfacing technique, diminishing erythema duration while reducing rhytids and tightening skin. It provides a spectrum of laser resurfacing from light resurfacing for the younger patient to heavy resurfacing for the patient with severely damaged skin. The erbium:YAG laser can resurface deep rhytids, but the endpoints that determine disappearance of rhytids without producing scar are more difficult to find with the erbium:YAG than with the carbon dioxide laser. For this reason, combined resurfacing techniques with the carbon dioxide and erbium:YAG laser are preferred for the deeper rhytids in the periocular and perioral areas.
