Very little has been published about the fate of iodine 131 P.V.P. in the body; Tauxe (1963) reported a physiological half-life of one day. Our trials using this substance for brain-scanning have shown that this is not so, that the liver dose is not insignificant, and moreover that the ratio of tumour-to-brain uptake is not high as reported by Tauxe. We have discontinued its use. We would like to draw the attention of those who may be considering a similar trial to the information we have obtained. |
