Steganography is a technique for embedding data in a carrier medium to remain inconspicuous to unintended recipients. Image steganographic techniques aim to improve the security, capacity, and imperceptibility of stego images. This paper proposes an inverted LSB substitution-based steganography technique that improves both security and capacity while enhancing the imperceptibility of stego images. The message bits are embedded in different color channels in each pixel based on relative intensity levels. This technique embeds two bits in the dominant color channel and three in each recessive color channel per pixel for better payload capacity. It enhances security by rotating the bits both between and for each color channel for each pixel. The imperceptibility is improved by inverting message bits per channel. The proposed method was tested using well-known performance metrics and analyzed for RS steganalysis and histogram-based attacks. The proposed method performed considerably better compared to previous studies while increasing payload capacity up to 8 bpp. |
