Abstrakt: The wedgetail filefish Paramonacanthus frenatus(Peters, 1855) is recorded for the first time from the north-west coast of India (n= 2) (60–155 mm standard length) collected from the Veraval fishing harbour, Gujarat. Identification of the species is confirmed by the presence of a single long dorsal spine on the dorsal fin; caudal fin coloration hyaline to pale yellowish, membranes with numerous small blackish spots forming two curved cross bars. The present study provides the range extension of this species from Gujarat waters along the northeastern Arabian Sea region with a record of new maximum standard length.
