Abstrakt: ABSTRACTIntroduction:Recent studies have explored adolescents’ subjective experiences of their occupations, but no research is available on the effect of learning difficulties (LD) on these experiences and the consequent influence on their Occupational Performance Priorities (OPPs). Objectives: The purpose of the study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of both adolescents with LD and their parents regarding their most important current and future OPPs. Method: A descriptive, explorative, qualitative study design was utilised as part of a broader study. Eighteen adolescents with LD aged 13–19 years and nine of their parents were interviewed or included in a focus group. Data were inductively coded and analysed. Results: The OPPs considered important were education and work occupations, socialising with family and friends, free time occupations such as playing games, listening to music, and self-care (e.g., eating, sleeping as well as religious activities). Three main themes emerged regarding participants’ perspectives on the most important OPPs for adolescents with LD: understanding the adolescent perspective and developmental needs, occupational needs (productivity, pleasure, and restoration) and preparing for the future. Conclusion: Adolescents with LD and their parents identified a variety of OPPs as influenced by LD, adolescence and occupational needs. The findings relate well with literature on adolescent development and occupational development as well as studies on parents’ perceptions of support and goal setting. Practice implications were recognised and suggestions for further research were made.
