An imidazole-based coordination polymer formulated as [Cu(Benz)2(OOCH3)2] (1) (Benz = benzimidazole) was prepared via a solvent-free method of grinding. It was compared with another, which was prepared through a solution-based method using spectroscopic and powder X-ray diffraction techniques. The results obtained showed that the two materials are similar. Adsorption of methyl orange (MO) from solution using (1) was investigated using batch adsorption technique. The results revealed that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics, and the equilibrium data fitted best into the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity of (1) was found to be 15.01 mg/g. The prepared materials could therefore be used as an adsorbent in the treatment of wastewater containing dyes. |
