Abstrakt: The arrival and care of refugees from the Spanish Civil War is well documented in the Marx Memorial Library’s Spanish Collection. Only a few thousand of the half a million Spaniards forced into exile arrived in Britain and made their home here. Many continued their anti-Franco activities and created their own institutions and networks. Not all were able to participate, however, and the experience of the exiles could vary considerably. Their presence is remembered today as part of wider remembrance of the war in Spain and the British response to it.
