Abstrakt: Based on the data derived from a series of balance studies with infants, it has been shown that the oral administration of free citric acid results in a marked decrease in the proportion of the ingested citric acid and food citrate appearing in the urine, as compared with that of the control period in which the basal diet is the only source of citric acid. Ordinarily, the feces contain a small amount of citric acid; the citric acid of intestinal contents is uninfluenced by the addition of free citric acid.
