Abstrakt: As the increasing popularity of ambulatory surgery continues to expand and patients present with more complex procedures, nurses are challenged to remain steadfast to standards of care and policies that guide their practice. Regularly attending educational programs in your specialty, membership in your professional organization, and participation within your facility on policy forming committees assures you of an awareness of the highest standards of care and, ultimately, of the delivery of that care. You cannot afford legally to be unprepared in the knowledge of what is expected by an ordinary, prudent nurse. You are held accountable for these standards of care. Legally and ethically, one cannot afford to relax vigilance in the care of the ambulatory surgical patient.
