Abstrakt: •Bioactive compounds and antioxidant activities in sweetpotato roots were evaluated.•Peeling sweetpotato roots reduced bioactive compounds and antioxidant activities.•Phytochemicals in sweetpotato roots varied with flesh colour.•Antioxidant activity in sweetpotato was a combined effect of all bioactive compounds.•Sweetpotato could be promoted as a functional food for potential health benefits.
