A total of fifty seven rose genotypes were evaluated in field over two seasons during 2015 and 2016, for resistance against black spot disease caused by Diplocarpon rosae. Among all the genotypes screened, Knock Out was found immune (0% disease index (PDI)) to black spot while Carefree Beauty and Crifty Duty were found highly resistant (1–5 PDI) whereas IIHRR 3–7–12 and Arka Nishkant were found resistant (6–10 PDI). The pooled apparent infection rate (r) and area under disease progression curve (AUDPC) values calculated for black spot incidence showed wide variation among the selected 57 genotypes. Further, eight selected genotypes that showed varied levels of resistance against black spot in field were further tested for their response to artificial inoculation of D. rosaein detached leaf assay (DLA) method. The results of this assay confirmed the varieties Knock Out as highly resistant and Arka Nishkant as moderately resistant to black spot infection. |
