Intercalations of paragneisses are found in the NE-SW striking orthogneiss belt Schweighausen-Brandenkopf in the central part of the Kinzig valley (Schwarzwald) east of the village Steinach. The mineral assemblages of these paragneisses are: 1. Kyanite, staurolite and garnet as relictic minerals of a high-pressure metamorphic phase; 2. Cordierite, sillimanite and K-feldspar as paragenesis which originated from an evidently lower pressure phase. During this subsequent metamorphism two different metamorphic grades can be distinguished. Gneisses only subject to mediumgrade metamorphism could not reach a new chemical equilibrium. Therefore, the mineral assemblage of staurolite, kyanite and garnet was preserved and manifests an early high-pressure metamorphism. |
