•Wild ring-tailed coatis (Nasua nasua) of the Iguaçu National Park, Brazil, host ticks infected by Rickettsia amblyommatisand Rickettsia bellii.•Rickettsia rhipicephaliDNA was first detected in a vertebrate animal, a ring-tailed coati from the Iguaçu National Park.•Ring-tailed coatis are directly and indirectly related to the maintenance of Rickettsiaspp., representing a potential risk to INP visitors. |
