Abstrakt: Advanced practice providers have a growing role in gastroenterology, including the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). This systematic literature review summarizes data from 14 publications reporting on phase 3 and real-world studies of UC treatment with vedolizumab. Intravenous and subcutaneous formulations of vedolizumab demonstrated significantly increased clinical response and remission compared with placebo in phase 3 studies. Greater efficacy was also observed in a head-to-head comparison with adalimumab. Vedolizumab has a favorable safety profile, with low infection risk and improves patient quality of life. Similar results have been observed in real-world studies.
