Terminalia arjuna(Roxb.) Wight and Arn. is a medicinal plant distributed throughout India. It is known for wide variety of medicinal properties, especially on heart blockages. The aim of the study was to develop simple, precise, accurate, linear, robust and stability indicative HPLC method for determination of arjunic acid and also to optimize forced degradation for various stress conditions along with different solvent extractions. Method of validation was carried for the analyte and was used to evaluate arjunic acid from eight T. arjunasamples collected from Konkan corridor of Western Ghats. The analysis of various solvents showed that alcoholic solvents like isopropyl alcohol, ethanol and 90% ethanol are suitable for arjunic acid extraction than other organic solvents. However, nonpolar solvents like hexane did not produce results. Out of the samples tested for arjunic acid content, sample from Sindhudurg district showed highest accumalation of arjunic acid (0.042 ± 0.002%). |
