Abstrakt: Shifts in food availability associated with the presence of fish changed the growth rates of two generations and cohorts of Daphnia obtusa. The growth and fecundity of daphnids increased in water from fish aquaria but decreased with the age of the animals. The indirect impact of fish may derive from the coupling effects of enhancement of algal growth and a chemical mediating daphnid growth and resource allocation.
