Abstrakt: This paper presents a new terrestrial photogrammetric method to analyse the vertical structure of forest or other wooded land. Instead of time-consuming field measurements in circle plots or along transect lines modified cameras are used to assess the different layers. The main advantage of this method is the flexibility in the measurement of layer characteristics. They can be defined even after the field session. Limitations are existing with regard to forest types and the slope variety of the ground surface. Three examples from field work between 1996 and 2002 underline the practicability of the proposed method.
