Abstrakt: the piezoelectric properties of poled film of P(VDF-TrFE) (copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and trifluoroethylene) are studied in a wide temperature range from 430 K down to 18 K. The electromechanical coupling factor ktis essentially independent of temperature and is about 0.3 in the range below 300 K. Based on this result, concave transducers for use in scanning acoustic microscopy at low temperatures are fabricated using thin film of P(VDF-TrFE) and their performance is estimated. The transducers operate effectively with cryogenic coupling liquids in the several hundred MHz region.
