Abstrakt: This article has described the metabolic bone diseases associated with hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and hypercortisolism. The diseases themselves represent treatable causes of bone loss. Correction of the hormonal abnormality will certainly diminish the rate of bone loss associated with these conditions, but only in certain situations will it allow for restoration of bone mass. Active therapy to stimulate bone formation may be necessary.
