Salivary gland tumors are often challenging lesions for the pathologist. Their heterogenous and overlapping features may be problematic. Salivary gland tumors may also resemble certain skin, odontogenic, or metastatic neoplasms. The basis for diagnosis is still routine histology in conjunction with a good history. The best method for an accurate diagnosis is an adequate biopsy, which allows for an examination of representative fields of what may be a varied tumor, and an appreciation of the tumor/stroma interface. |
