The majority of the discussion in the literature of giant-cell lesions in the jawbone relates to the nature of the giant cells, their origin, and whether their behavior can be predicted on the basis of size, shape, numbers of cells per field, or other features. Discussion of treatment in most articles is not nearly as extensive. This article has reviewed the pathophysiology of these diseases and their therapy. In most cases, removal of the lesion with a margin of bone provides a cure for the patient. More radical surgery is rarely necessary. |
