Management of the multiply injured victim with maxillofacial trauma is accomplished through prioritized assessment and treatment. The primary survey identifies and treats those injuries that involve the airway, breathing, and circulation. Once the patient's vital signs have been stabilized, the systematic secondary survey is performed to identify all remaining injuries. Appropriate surgical subspecialty consultations are obtained to enable the formulation of a coordinated treatment plan for the definitive care of the patient. |
