This is a preliminary experimental and clinical evaluation of simultaneous multisection laminography during pulmonary angiography employing a book cassette. In cases of emboli involving the hilar vessels and in instances of emboli involving the small pulmonary arteries, accurate assessment of intraluminal obstruction and vascular deformity may be difficult in conventional serial angiographic studies, because of superimposition of confusing air and vascular shadows. To define these vessels more accurately, the conventional pulmonary angiogram is followed by a second injection in which the suspected area is examined by films obtained with a laminographic book cassette. Timing of the injection is determined by the study of the preliminary serial studies. Illustrations of the technic in experimental animals and in clinical instances are presented. The advantages in the evaluation of opacified vessels in multiple planes outweighs the liability of the reduced definition of multisection laminography and affords a more accurate delineation of the vascular structures. |
