•The diatom Haslea nusantaraproduces a marennine-like blue pigment.•Culture supernatant (BW) from H. nusantaradisplays biological activities that can be beneficial for aquaculture.•BW significantly inhibits the percent growth rate of Isochrysis galbana.•BW displays toxicity effect to the brine shrimp Artemia salina.•BW exhibits antibacterial activity against Vibrio harveyiiand Staphylococcus aureus. |
