A ternary LiBr-KBr-CsBr melt was investigated for potential use as an electrolyte for investigating metal-hydrogen (M-H) systems at medium-range temperatures defined as 500-600 K. From the differential thermal analysis results, the eutectic composition and eutectic point were and about 498 K, respectively. After adding LiH to the melt, and using a molybdenum electrode, anodic currents corresponding to hydrogen gas evolution were observed. Using a titanium electrode, currents due to hydrogen absorption/desorption were observed. These results show that this melt can be used as an electrolyte for investigating M-H systems at medium-range temperatures. (c) 2003 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved. |
