Absorption of organic substances on platinum electrodes

Abstrakt: Adsorption (chemisorption) of methanol, formic acid and other organic substances on the smooth platinum electrode has been studied. The adsorption is dissociative and usually involves dehydrogenation of the molecule being adsorbed, iebreaking of the C-H bonds and formation of new C-Pt and H-Pt bonds. In some cases adsorption due to breaking of the C-C bonds occurs.
