We are practising law in a new era with different rules and a professional global environment that is constantly evolving. The practice of law in one jurisdiction may subject professionals to certain obligations under the laws of other jurisdictions. A recent example may be found in UK legislation1but is prevalent in other jurisdictions as well. This affects many areas of practice, among which are confidentiality rules and the attorney–client privilege. Israel, under pressure from global financial organizations such as the OECD and FATF, has legislated rules and regulations governing certain services provided by professionals as discussed in this article. There is much to be said for these changes and their effect on the practice of law. |
