Abstrakt: The free and glucuronide fractions of the plasma 17-hydroxycorticosteroids have been determined on specimens from 14 adult controls, 7 patients with chronic renal disease, and 11 patients with acute renal failure. The results have been statistically analyzed. Both free and glucuronide fractions were shown to be elevated in cases of acute renal failure while neither was significantly altered in the cases of chronic renal disease. The changes in these fractions during diuresis and hemodialysis in a few cases of acute renal failure are also reported. The possible mechanisms for these findings are briefly discussed.
