Tests of F2and F3progenies from crosses of near‐isogenic spring wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) lines of PI 468960 segregating for reaction to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminisDC. f. sp. triticiEm. Marchal) and Hessian fly [Mayetiola destructor(Say)] suggested that the Pm3aand H3genes previously identified as located on chromosomes 1A and 5A, respectively, were linked in repulsion. Crossover values were calculated as 10.5 and 14.3%, by the maximum likelihood and product methods, respectively. Microsporocytes from F1plants of PI 468960/susceptible showed that a ring of four chromosomes caused the linkage. PI 468960 will be a useful parent in breeding programs where screening for resistance is limited to one pest. |
