Second‐degree polynomials were used to characterize direct yield components, plant height, and certain quality characteristics of fiber as dependent variables on waterand N‐supplied cotton plants. Yield was correlated most highly with the number of flowers and bolls produced. Yield was correlated positively with plant height (as a measure of plant growth) when all data were considered, but correlated either positively or negatively when only part of the response function was considered. Fiber length, micronaire, strength, and elongation were influenced more by water supply than by nitrogen. |
