Abstrakt: Increase in water‐repellency of some sandy soils has been reported to be induced by conditions of high relative humidity. Incubation studies in a closed system were used to study mechanisms by which a wettable soil and a Bacillusisolate from it were able to partially suppress the expected increase in water‐repellency, normally induced by high relative humidity, in some water‐repellent soils. Evidence indicates a volatile product(s) is responsible for suppressing increases in water‐repellency.
