In a previous paper (Kassenaar et al., 1955) some of our findings on the distribution of injected heterologous Thyrotrophic Hormone (T. S. H.) in various organs and in the blood of rats were described. It was found, that among the various tissues tested, the kidney tissue was the most active in concentrating T. S. H. activity from the bloodstream.Five minutes after the injection of 3 mg. USP standard T. S. H. in rats (30 Junkmann-Schoeller Units) 10 to 30 % of the dose given could be extracted from the kidneys, which are about 0.5 % of the body weight.Similar results were obtained by d'Angelo et al.(1955). In order to evaluate further the effect of the kidneys on the disappearance rate of T. S. H. from the bloodstream, shamoperated and nephrectomized rabbits were injected intravenously with T. S. H., and the concentration of this hormone in their serum determined at |
