The survival of 25 patients seen at the Medical University of South Carolina with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) secondary to primary carcinoma of the esophagus is analyzed. A history of irradiation to the fistulous area did not correlate with worse prognosis in this group when compared to those who had no prior irradiation. Aggressive therapy, when possible, was associated with longer survival. |
