Analysis and synthesis of positional variants of the Swedish sonorants /r, l, v, j/ are reported, and strategies for synthesis work on this group of consonants are discussed. Based on analysis of fluent text material, sonorant rules affecting both source and resonator features have been formulated and tested. Special efforts were made to handle the realization of consonant clusters. We are aiming at a model of acceptable phoneme qualities, tested in isolated syllables and words, to get an understanding of the type of reduced articulation that is typical of fluent reading and spontaneous speech. |
